Lose Word Verification for Comments Already

Comment Etiquette Part #1 - Approach post with humor.

word verification on a comment form for Bloggers
Word verification for comments (Blogger blogs) should just go away! Is there a need for it? After all, 1) you can program to get the email or notices on your blog's dashboard about comments. Blogger gives you total control.
2) As an admin for your site you can set it so that the comments has to be approved before it's published. So SPAM comments won't be published unless you wanted them to be.
3) The other way is delete the comments if you deemed them inappropriate, as an admin you have total control of keeping or trashing the comments.

I think you got the idea, now for the ranting part...I do mind having to enter the word verification. It takes up so much more of my time to just say, hi, I stopped by. Thanks, nice blog. etc. What's worst is the ones that tries to see if you are crossed eyed! I mean, gees, sometimes, the letters are either so blurry, on top of each other, or so mal-functioned that I can't even make out the letters with a magnifying glass!

failed word verification

Bottom line is, there are ways to be in total control of your comments without using the word verification and causing your poor readers grief. Secondly, there is no need for those machines to generate such crossed eyed words that a normal human being can't even tell which letter it is. Why do those words have to be so hard to see? Even if they are testing a human being, it has to be readable with human eyes. Is a robot going to sit there and enter the letters?

Loose word verification from your comment form and make it easy on your visitors to leave comments.

  1. <3 This! I do think a few people aren't bothered by it but I do find it time consuming to "hope" I get it right to find that I don't always. Then it seems the verification is out to get me :(

    1. Oh yes, the sometimes I get it right and not. That is so frustrating and then you think, why do I even wasting my time? Is this blogger going to visit me back, will my comment get her attention anyways..?

  2. What ticked me off the most is those who moderate their comments, and still use word verifications! It's very frustrating, and annoying..Great rant!

    Happy holidays!

    1. Yes. One on top of the other. They might as well say I don't want or need comments on this blog, because as soon as someone finds out...they won't put themselves through the trouble anymore.

  3. I have to agree with you! :) The worst is the ones that come up AFTER you hit submit. You can't just 'post & go' you have to sit there to make sure it doesn't come up...

    1. I know right? It's really ridiculous, I now have to make sure that the comment: thank you...comes up before I go, because what a waste of breath!

  4. I don't mind them if they are easy to read . . . but the ones that make you cross-eyed I really hate and will not leave a comment after trying to get it right.

I also hate the ones that make you jump through so many hoops in addition to the word verifications.

  5. I used to get emails from people saying they were not able to post a comment. Then I ditched the word verification thing (didnt know it was just with a click of a button) and after that, no more problems, and many more comments.

I wish Blogger would remove this so-called non-feature because truly, it does take extra time, and for me with satellite internet, at least 1-3 minutes to load the word verification...

    Great rant!

  6. I could not possibly agree with you more. Word verification is so annoying - and when I'm in a hurry, if it's one of those surprise ones (you know the kind - that only pop up after you've clicked the submit button) sometimes I might not be paying attention and close the tab to go to the next blog and my comment is ultimately not left.

    Happy New Year! :)

    1. Period! Right? I think so. There are the delete buttons and the approval process, why bother with verification? Ughh

  9. I couldn't agree more! Especially since I seem to be the biggest loser when it comes to getting those things right. Seriously, I'll type a nice long comment just to be humiliated repeatedly by being told I didn't type the right thing. I often have to hit the "refresh" button about five times before I can find one I can actually READ, and then I STILL get it wrong! LOL Maybe they're supposed to be like those "Hidden picture" things...you need to stare at the screen for ten minutes, unfocus your eyes and chant some calming manta to get the correct CAPTCHA to "pop out" at you.
Anyhoo, I'm getting off my soapbox now...hehee...I'm stopping by from the Wordless Wednesday blog hop, and I'm so glad I did! Love your blog! I'll be popping back to check out your tutorials for sure!
I write a humor blog, and I'd love for you to drop by sometime! It's great for laughs, and sometimes even a snort or two! Hope to see you there, and enjoy the rest of your week.
